I’m just not even sure where to begin on this one.

Should I start with the part where Republicans are once again wasting time in Congress rather than approaching any sort of meaningful legislation dealing with jobs, the economy, etc?

Or how this bill is itself sexist?

Or perhaps the massive grey area this bill would carry? Jezebel put it well:

As with everything stupid, serious unanswered questions remain about PreNDA. For example, as a white lady in a long term relationship with a white guy, could I be accused of being racist against white people if I opted to terminate an unplanned pregnancy? Could a doctor accuse me of embodying liberal guilt? Of course not. PreNDA would subject minority women in vulnerable populations to the racist paternalism of the state and make it more difficult for them to access health care.

Sex-selective abortion is statistically an insignificant minority in the US in the same way that abortions for rape victims make up less than 1% of all abortions in America.

What it is, however, is a wonderful scare tactic: “Look at all those irresponsible women out there, aborting their pregnancies willy-nilly! Why, those fetuses have civil rights!”

The law is impossible to enforce - there’s no test for race that exists that could be performed during the period in which a pregnancy can be terminated - much less really not proper tests for race period. Gender? Feasible, and this happens in other parts of the world, but in the United States there is absolutely  no evidence of a gender-slanted birthrate, period.

Beyond that - in a theoretical world where this were a thing that actually happened, getting pregnant sort of requires a partner in most cases - and for race to be an issue, said partner would have to be of the race that contributed to the race of the fetus.

I dunno about you, but I’m thinking it’s not too common for people to go out and hate-fuck based on race and then terminate the pregnancy. Maybe that’s just me, though, and I can’t get in the mind of a proper extremely racist individual who would go to such spiteful and insane lengths.

It’s a good thing we’ve got the undisputed lords and masters of How Women Ought To Handle Their Lady Parts in the GOP to show us the way and guard our precious fetuses from these insane baby-killing racist/sexist individuals!
